Club History

Kiwanis Club of Sault Ste. Marie was established in this community over 85 years ago, on May 20, 1926 with 36 members under the reign of the Charter President Mr. Jack Ryan. Meetings were first held at noon on the site of the Old Stone House. Meals back then were $.50 each and and beer was only a dime.

The first major project was the construction of the first-ever "Children's Playground" in Sault Ste. Marie. It was located on the land owned by Kiwanis on the present site of the ESSAR Centre.
