Dear Fellow Kiwanians,
As they say April Showers brings May flowers and after a pretty cold April, we are finally enjoying some sunshine and some warmth.
It could not have come at a better time, because we were hosting International President Tom and First Lady Rosemary in Ottawa and I know that everyone was hoping to see the tulips bloom in our Capital city.
Well, we got our wish and what a spectacular weekend! Not only because of the weather but also because of the meticulous organization that took place to make everything perfect during our stay.
We had the International President our International Vice President, I as Governor, the Governor Elect, Immediate Past Governor and Region C Trustee all in attendance, which makes this meeting that much more special and something that will most likely not be replicated in a very very long time anywhere in Kiwanis.
From the Friday luncheon hosted by President Alison of the Ottawa Club, to the caucus meeting with educational, growth and visibility presentations and an update on training from Jay our Master Trainer, to the Gala on Saturday evening, nothing was left to chance. This was the perfect venue to launch our 4 Pillars (more of this board initiative will be distributed to all the clubs through your respective LG’s as soon as it is translated – watch for it and please make the presentation to your club members when you as Presidents receive it)
IP Tom’s message on growth was inspiring to all of us and IVP John’s presentation on MNT and our Eliminate project left us all wanting to do more. Truly a proud moment for our District and Kiwanis!
Congratulations to LG Phil who had the vision at the Barbados convention and who took the lead on this project as well as to LG Gary, and LG Bob from the adjacent divisions for all their hard work and the many fantastic surprises throughout the weekend.
I also would like to thank the whole committee that assisted the LG’s to make this a memorable experience. There are many of you and I don’t want to miss any of you so thank you all for your hard work.
The weekend was capped with a black tie Gala at the war museum with the proceeds going towards our Eliminate project. It was indeed a proud moment when we handed a cheque to IP Tom, which with the KFC contribution that amounted to $30,000 along with the President of UNICEF Canada who also attended the gala evening.
The International President and First Lady were very impressed and our EC&C District shone!

Chers confrères et consoeurs:
Comme le dit le dicton, les pluies d’avril amènent les fleurs de mai et, après un mois d’avril froid, nous jouissons finalement des rayons du soleil et de la chaleur qui les accompagnent.
Ce n’aurait pu être un meilleur temps pour accueillir le Président international Tom et son épouse Rosemary à Ottawa et je suis certain que tous espéraient voir les tulipes fleurir dans notre Capitale.
Notre souhait s’est réalisé, quelle merveilleuse fin de semaine! Non seulement à cause de la température, mais aussi parce que l’organisation méticuleuse de toutes les activités a rendu notre séjour très agréable.
La présence du Président international, de notre Vice-président international, de la mienne à titre de Gouverneur, de la Gouverneure élue, de la Gouverneure ex-officio et de l’Administrateur de la Région C a rendu cette rencontre beaucoup plus spéciale et elle ne se répètera certainement pas avant plusieurs années, n’importe où au Kiwanis.
Du déjeuner du vendredi, présidé par le Président du C.K. d’Ottawa, à la réunion régionale du samedi matin où on a discuté d’éducation, de croissance, de visibilité et d’une mise à jour de notre responsable de l’éducation Jay, jusqu’au Gala du samedi soir, rien n’a été laissé au hasard. C’était la meilleure occasion pour lancer notre programme en quatre volets (la documentation à ce sujet sera distribuée à tous les clubs via vos Lieutenants-gouverneurs respectifs dès qu’elle sera traduite – soyez à l’affût et présentez-la à vos membres dès que vous, les Présidents, la recevrez).
Le message du Président international Tom, sur la croissance, a été inspirante pour nous tous et la présentation du V.-P. international John sur le Tétanos maternel et néonatal / projet ELIMINATE nous a encouragés à en faire encore plus. Vraiment, ce fut un moment de fierté pour notre District et le Kiwanis!
Félicitations à LG Phil qui a eu cette vision pendant le congrès à La Barbade et qui a pris l’initiative de réaliser ce projet avec le concours de LG Gary, et LG Bob des Divisions environnantes pour tout le travail et les nombreuses surprises au cours de cette fin de semaine.
Je veux aussi remercier tous les membres du Comité qui ont assisté ces Lieutenants-gouverneurs pour l’organisation de cet évènement mémorable. Vous êtes si nombreux et je ne veux oublier personne: je vous dis donc un sincère merci pour votre bon travail.
Cette fin de semaine s’est terminée par un Gala (cravate noire) au Musée de la Guerre, et tous les profits ont été versés pour notre projet ELIMINATE. Vraiment, c’est avec fierté que nous avons présenté un chèque qui, avec la contribution de la Fondation canadienne, totalisait 30 000$. Président Tom et le Président d’UNICEF Canada l’ont accepté avec grand plaisir.
Le Président international et son épouse ont été très impressionnés et notre District brillait de tous ses feux!
