Recent Happenings:

Bingoland South: The last three weeks have been very busy where we have added to the coffers over $5400 each time. Please keep in mind that this money has to be shared with 31 other charities doing the Bingos so that is how we get about $3000 each month.

A Taste of Manotick: Saturday Aug. 21st, despite the weather, we saw a good turnout of people to enjoy the offerings of the restaurants and other merchants on Manotick Main Street. Thanks to Rick Coates for organizing the corn roast which was so successful that we ran out of corn and all the members looking after the street barriers. To those who missed their shift on the barriers please see the Fine Pot at our September Meeting.

Upcoming Projects & Events:

Blood Donor Clinic: The next Blood Donor Clinic will be held on Thursday Sept. 9th and please note it will be staged at the Manotick Fire Hall from 1:30 to 8 pm.

Club Presidents Installations: LG Germaine Barr 2010-2011 will be holding a mass induction of Division 13 Presidents Sunday Sept. 26th at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, Gatineau. This will be in conjunction with Division 12 LG Bill Gosewitz 2010-2011.

Manotick Kiwanis 50th Anniversary Charter Night: The date is Saturday November 13th, the place is the Centurion Centre; Colonnade Rd. Planning is well underway by Claudette Corace. We all should mark our calendars now and plan to have this as our most memorable Charter Night ever. More info as we go along from Claudette.

Highlights of August 17th Meeting: 48 members and guests joined in for the last summer meeting and we were graced with our special guest LG Jay McLaren who congratulated our Club for being the leading Club in Division 13, receiving the Governors Award for the second quarter and for our support of the Key Leader program. This was LG Jay’s official visit to our Club and a thank you for our Club’s efforts this year.

On a sadder note Ken Smith is in the Queensway Carleton Hospital doing very poorly and he is desperate for visitors. You can visit him at A4 Room 519. There has been another postponement for Bryan Dorling’s surgery it has now been pushed back to Aug. 28.

Lucky LG Jay won the 50/50 draw and since he drew his own ticket he promptly donated the funds back to our Key Leader program. Thanks LG Jay for your leadership and sense of fun this Kiwanis year.

Random Thoughts: Jokes of the Weirdest Kind

When a man brings his wife flowers for no reason, there’s a reason.

What yamacallits?

What do you call a deaf monster? Whatever you like --- he can’t hear you.

What do you call a sleep walking nun? A roamin’ Catholic

What lies on its back one hundred feet in the air? A centipede

What is Cole’s Law? Mostly it’s thinly sliced cabbage.

Don’t marry for money; you can borrow it cheaper.
