My Kiwanis Moments
When I broke my elbow (just prior to our last ECC Convention) I was devastated. I encouraged my husband, Lieutenant Governor John Hamilton, to go to the Jamaican Convention, but wondered how I would manage. I didn't have to wonder very long.
Several members of our club took very good care of me for that whole week without my asking for help. One member was at my house at 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. EVERY DAY to help me with my eye drops and with my insulin injections.
Another Kiwanian took me for lunch and grocery shopping several times during the week.
As it was our Kempenfest weekend (a major fundraiser for our club), I was picked up at the end of their day (working on the craft show) and taken out for dinner each night.
All in all, our Kiwanis “family” was outstanding. These people are all my best friends.
It is reassuring to know that Kiwanis is there when needed, without being asked.
