My Kiwanis Moment

Lieutenant Governor Peter TudiscoAfter being in Kiwanis now for almost 10 years, there are many Kiwanis moments that come to mind.  However one in particular has always been first and foremost, because it involves my son Michael.

Mike was a follower.  A great kid but he always took the second role never the lead.  That is until he joined Key Club when he got to High School.   He joined because he knew I was involved but a transformation occurred that both his Mom and I did not foresee.

By grade 11 he was asked to take on the responsibility of Lieutenant Governor for his division.  What a change.  Here was a young man who would never get up in front of people, let alone give a speech, begin to organize and take on his responsibility in a manner that made me very proud.

The year he was LG,  Governor Button came to our division meeting and dinner.   I asked Mike to attend the dinner along with the President of his Key Club.  I introduced him to Gov. Button and he was asked to say a few words on behalf of Key Club.

Without hesitation he addressed the head table and the Kiwanians present and gave a remarkable speech about the Key Club convention that he had just attended.  Many of the Kiwanians present asked who that eloquent young man was, and you can imagine how proud I was that night.

Mike’s younger brother Chris is in grade 9 this year and he too is a Key Cluber.  He should be at the very least President by grade 11  (but no pressure!)

I am very proud of both my boys.

KIWANIS BUILDS LEADERS.  I have seen it and experienced it first hand.
