My Kiwanis Moment
Over the past twenty five years, I have had many wondrous moments through Kiwanis. One that sticks in my mind is the afternoon that I spent with a Kiwanian who was terminally ill with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
We were manning a check point for a Kiwanis Community Walk, and this Kiwanian had been brought from home by another member of the club so that our friend with ALS could participate in one last Kiwanis Project.
He was a long time member and had held all the positions in the club, but his greatest joy came from serving the children of the community. As we manned our post, he had an opportunity to see the children and perform a service one last time.
Our fifth object of Kiwanis is to form enduring friendships, render altruistic service and build better communities, our friend did all that and more, he made a difference in many children’s lives, and through him I know that one can make a difference.
