Key Leader Weekend – Huge Turnout!

PLG’s and LG’s attending Kingston, Jamaica Convention were introduced to the Key Leader Program, now in its fourth year, by Division 6 LG Jim McIntosh and Division 5 LG Peter Tudisco. The 2007 Key Leader Weekend was held on November 16-19, 2007 at the Tim Hortons Onondaga Farms Camp, St. George, ON a beautiful 400-acre working farm operation by the Tim Hortons Foundation.

The event was filled to capacity thanks to the effort of PLG’s, LG’s and Club Members. 13 Kiwanians from Nebraska, Indiana, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and Jamaica served as chaperones and facilitators to over 70 secondary school students sponsored by 15 Kiwanis Clubs in Southern Ontario.  This Program is not only for Key Club Members, but is a great opportunity to introduce Key Club to students not already involved in a Key Club.

For the first time in Canada the Key Leader Program was a sellout. Also, it was the first time that every student in attendance was sponsored by a Kiwanis Club. The graduates will be leading in a different way in their communities because of the impact of attending this “fantastic” weekend event.

If your club missed out on sponsoring students to this challenging and “fantastic”  event, don’t be dismayed. Another event is planned for the same weekend, same location next November.

Now hear this! The Key Leader Program is coming to the Maritime Region. A Weekend Camp is planned for November 14-16, 2008 at the Tim Hortons Camp in Tatamagouche, NS under the joint site coordination of PIP Glen Bagnell and Key Club Administrator Ted Bulley.

Don’t delay! Don’t miss out! Inquire about being involved now! Think about promoting the Program in your community before school is out and be ready to register students when school resumes in September. PLG’s, LG’s and Club Officers are requested to keep working at promoting the Key Leader Weekend Program.
