Cherrie RoweMy Kiwanis Moment

It have been a Kiwanian for over twenty years during which time I have had many Kiwanis moments, but my greatest moment was when I saw the look of satisfaction on a parent"s face.

Some years ago a grand- aunt of a cute little girl was very worried because she was having problem with the child"s schooling. She told me that the child's mother was unable to care for her so she took her .She, the grandmother ,however, was also having some difficulties and needed assistance with her transportation to and from school. I started to assist as best I could and contributed to her travelling as well as the purchasing of her books. She did well in school and from the reports I observed that she was a brilliant child and could excell if she got the
help she needed. I then thought to myself " hmm, why not make this a Club"s project " I then discussed the proposal with my members and this was gladly accepted.

She continued to do very well in school and at her graduation she was one of the top students. The mother came to me after graduation and with tears and laughter in her eyes she thanked me and the Discovery Bay Kiwanis Club for the doors that were now opened to her daughter. At that moment I was
proud and glad that I am a Kiwanian After High School she attended The University of Technology where she
majored in Hospitality Management. Here again she did very well. The high point came however, when she won the coveted scholarship to further do studies in the United Kingdom .
